Floods in Somalia: Invitation to a diaspora humanitarian coordination meeting
DEMAC and IOM invite Somali diaspora organizations globally to participate in the upcoming coordination meeting.
Substantial floods displace thousands of people since November 8
Somalia has received substantial rainfall over the last one month triggering devastating floods, swamping farmland, and damaging roads and bridges thereby restricting access to towns and settlements for displaced people. Heavy rains, flash and riverine floods have temporarily affected over 1.17 million and displaced over 334,800 people.
Nearly half a million of those affected are in South West State. Over 310,000 people are temporarily affected in Jubaland, 201,000 in Puntland and 145,800 in Galmudug (UNOCHA, 2023)
Join the meeting to coordinate humanitarian response
In recognition of Somali diaspora's crucial role in the humanitarian response, we invite diaspora to join an online coordination meeting on Wednesday, November 15th 16.00 CET/18.00 EAT/10.00 ET.
The purpose of the meeting will be to exchange information and discuss coordination of the flood response. The meeting will be hosted by Ahmed Omar (DEMAC) and Hassan Siraji (IOM).
