Association of Ukrainian women in GB (AUW)

The Association of Ukrainian Women in Great Britain (AUW) was formed in 1948 and is a Corporate Member of the AUGB. It has 13 branches located mainly in England with liaison officers in Edinburgh, Scotland. Areas of activity include: 1. Welfare – caring for the well-being of members and members of the community 2. Cultural activities – preserving and developing customs and traditions (including embroidery, folk art, cookery, Ukrainian vocal traditions) 3. Maintaining strong relationships with Ukrainian Women’s associations across the world, in particular through the World Federation of Ukrainian Women’s Organisations and a number of women’s organisations in Ukraine 4. The Ukrainian Children’s Appeal Fund, created in1990, which initially provided support for child victims of the Chornobyl disaster. It has provided charitable and humanitarian aid to children, mothers and families and to charitable organisations in Ukraine for over 30 years 5. Maintaining and disseminating the Ukrainian literary heritage and the history of Ukrainian women, including writers and those who fought for the democratic and national rights of Ukraine
