Help saving Asim from floods in Sudan
27 September 2022
Heavy rains usually fall in Sudan between May and October, and the country faces severe flooding every year that wrecks property, infrastructure and crops, leaving thousands of families, such as the one from Asim, without shelter, food or sanitation. However, this year is different. According to the UN, more than 146,200 people have been affected by the floods, with more than 460,000 estimated for whole 2022.
The Sudanese Diaspora is at the forefront of delivering humanitarian aid
The Sudanese Diaspora Organization SAPA (Sudanese American Physicians Association) has been supporting affected people in Sudan for several years with life-saving medical assistance. The networks collaborates closely with local communities and organizations to identity urgent needs.
To the current crisis, SAPA was one of the first responders, providing medicines that will serve an outreach population of 10,000 and mosquito nets for 375 families in remote villages of Sudan.
